you are a… gift giver

We have identified you as someone who enjoys giving thoughtful gifts to their loved ones. Whether you are gifting for a celebration or ‘just to say’. Giving gifts can help foster connections and bring lasting joy.
Why do we give gifts?
There are strong traditions of gift-giving in many communities aside from the festive holidays that may immediately spring to mind. In history, gifts have been a way to show respect, such as foreign diplomats to reigning monarchs, and nowadays are often exchanges between presidents and prime ministers. Anthropologists studying Massim people in Papua New Guinea explained how the exchange of gifts that had no commercial value served to create a cycle of mutual responsibilities, resulting in a network of reciprocal relationships encompassing the entire community.1 Therefore, giving and receiving gifts can help to foster relationships and strengthen community feeling.
Dopamine response
Furthermore, studies have shown that spending money on others feels better than splurging on ourselves and lights up the reward centres of the brain.1 Furthermore, Neuroscientists have found that the joy of giving a gift lasts longer than the fleeting pleasure of accepting it.2 So give the gift of sleep to your loved ones and be sure to take our quiz to find out your sleep personality too!
